Dundu Dole...
Dundu Dole (which means Life Force in Wolof Language) Urban African Ballet was established in 1991 and has now been in existence for eighteen years. Dundu Dole  has provided entertaining, educational workshops, lecture demonstrations and cultural arts ballet for various schools, universities, churches, hospitals, conferences, corporations and major theater houses throughout the United States.

Pinellas County Cultural Affairs Dept., City of St. Petersburg and Bank of America, members of this semi-professional performance group, are recruited through our community outreach classes throughout the Tampa Bay area and consist of approximately 50 participants.

All members are trained in..

* Music
* Costume Design
* Still Walking
* Drumming
* Theatrics

Participants also learn the history behind Dundu Dole in order to participate in performances. Many of our participants have received college scholarships to prestigious institutions, graduated and returned to mentor and encourage community youth to aspire to high goals.

The company has performed at various venues throughout  the Tampa Bay area as well as the Southeast including, Busch Gardens, Ruth Eckerd hall, Mahaffey Theater, Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, St. Petersburg First Night, Birmingham Black Heritage Festival, FAMU, USF, Sante Fe Community College, Longwood College, Va. New Orleans and the Zora Neal Hurston Festival.

Dundu Dole has performed with and opened for artists such as Herbie Hancock, Ziggy Marley, Naomi Tutu, Kwesi M’fume, Angela Davis, Debra Cox, Kevon Edwards and many more.

In addition to receiving many community awards, Life Force, Jai Hinson and Dundu Dole have been featured on numerous News Casts and Television Specials namely; “What’s Right With Tampa Bay?” (1996), “Barbara’s Kids,” (1997),” Hogan’s Heroes,” (2000), News Channel 13 (2002), “Good To Know”,” (2005), “Good Day Tampa Bay, “ (2006 & 2008).  In Addition, the company most recently performed for the Rockland County School System in New York, New Jersey Performing Arts High School and The Apollo Theater in New York.
